DREAMCASTMOE
Toeing the IVX line-up next, and offering up a fresh face and Australian debut for our decadent decathlon is U.S dreamboat, Dreamcastmoe.
In Inner Varnika's 10 year history relatively few U.S artists have graced our stage, even fewer have been those that still reside in that unique country, with many departing for the concentrated music hubs of Europe. Dreamcastmoe, on the other hand, is a hyperlocal lovechild of Washington D.C musical styles, without any designs for permanent departure. Not many people can claim to be the offspring of a nightclub door-bitch and a go-go percussion player, but Dreamcastmoe's lineage and location are fertile fodder for his cosmic, funky, R'n'B vocal dance music. No wonder he's not inclined to leave.
For outsiders, Washington D.C looms large to the other 194 countries in the World mostly as the seat of power for the most powerful country in said World. Contrary to the impression beamed to us of mostly white politicians and lawmakers, Washington D.C is actually a majority black community that inspires a rich juicy cocktail of musical heritage which delivered us Duke Ellington, Marvin Gaye and Roberta Flack. It even has its own native style of music, recognised by law. Go-go music, so named for the night-long parties and percussionists who maintained the rhythm throughout, is a purely regional subgenre of funk, legislated in 2020 as the official sound of Washington DC, that can be heard beyond the grounds of the un-ironically named White House.
But what is life actually like for those who live in the American capital, but who have little to do with White House machinations? According to his music, Dreamcastemoe's world revolves around love, humour, vulnerability and the daily necessities, setting him well apart from rap genres tendencies toward materialism and sexism. A huge hearted, playful and generous person with a smooth-as-peanut-butter falsetto, Dreamcastmoe is making music 'for real people dealing with shit every day,' soundtracking your life in the process. Creativity and hometown love are the most prominent features of this localised sound.
A life spent rapping lends serious quantities of competence to live performance and Dreamcastmoe's IRL stage presence is another facet to his rough diamond charm. Join us next Easter for Dreamcasemoe's first Australian performance.
