Dear Inner Varnika,
Thank you for your patience and kind words of support for us over this tumultuous time. If there has been a silver lining to this strange situation it is the outpouring of love for IV that has kept us ticking. We’d also like to extend a message of solidarity and love to all other events, organisations and individuals who, like Inner Varnika, have had their world turned completely upside down by these circumstances. We are with you.
We have never been ones for succinct writings, and this statement is no different, but if you are a ticket holder, please do read. Here we go:
Clearly, Inner Varnika cannot take place this Easter. Despite our earlier insistence that it must, the rapidly evolving nature of the situation means we are now fully cognisant of the health risk it would pose to our wider community and nor would we proceed at Easter, even if legally possible. While we had initially hoped we could postpone the festival until Spring, with the uncertainty surrounding the length of necessary isolation measures to contain COVID-19, the risk of the unknown is simply too great.
As such, it is our intention to postpone Inner Varnika 2020 until Easter 2021. We had been incredibly excited to present to you this year’s iteration of the festival, and with almost a year’s work behind it, we hope we will get the chance to honour that. Where possible we will offer those artists booked for 2020 the chance to come play for us again, and where possible we want those of you who have or would have bought tickets, to join us. There will of course be a few surprises thrown in for good measure. However, all of the above is dependent upon where we end up financially after the dust settles on this year, that being metaphorical dust for once.
𝙎𝙤 𝙬𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙚 𝙩𝙤 𝙛𝙧𝙤𝙢 𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙚 ?
Inner Varnika is 100% funded by community ticket sales. One thing we knew for certain from the start is that we would never accept corporate sponsorship or government funding to help finance the event. We always wanted Inner Varnika to be independent. Now, the future of Inner Varnika will be 100% determined by community response.
As you would expect, the festival has made a substantial financial outlay for this year already given we were just four weeks out from the event when we decided we could not go ahead. Most of this we won’t recoup and additionally many staff have yet to be paid. Insurance companies were not providing cover for COVID-19 upon outbreak. Like so many of you, we’ve been hit hard by this.
We understand that many people would like Inner Varnika to continue into the future. To do this we are asking for your support, now more than ever, and we have identified a few ways you can do this. At the same time, we also understand many of you won’t be in a financial position to do this right now in light of recent events. As such, we’ve put together a set of options that allows you to choose what happens with your ticket. Please note, the below options only apply to tickets. Car passes and bus tickets will be automatically refunded in full.
𝗢𝗣𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 𝟭. Keep your ticket for next year’s event! Chances are we will need to charge a little more for tickets next year so this will be a good deal, plus that’s one nice thing to look forward to throughout isolation, quarantini or whatever you’re running with! No action required if you choose this option, and we are eternally thank you for sticking by us.
𝗢𝗣𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 𝟮. Partial refund. Get your ticket money back, less whatever amount you’re able to part with, and receive a groovy limited edition t-shirt to show your support for IV at this time. This will help us recoup costs and is our best chance to put on a festival next year. Fill out this form to choose this option — https://bit.ly/x34ivg7
𝗢𝗣𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 𝟯. Full refund. Let us know by Friday 27th March if you want to access a full refund by filling out this form — https://bit.ly/x34ivg7
We hope there’s something here for everyone and that Inner Varnika can make it through these times and rise again next year. We appreciate the ongoing love and support from the Inner Varnika family – it has been a wild journey so far and we hope that together we can ensure the future of our special gathering for many years to come.
Love always and in solidarity,
